Nokomis Youth Declared Dead

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Bald of Nokomis have received word from the War department that their son, Tech. Sgt. Edward W. Bald, has been declared officially dead. He had been missing in action since Dec. 12, 1944.

Sergeant Bald entered service in May, 1943, and was top turret gunner on a B-24. He went overseas in September, 1944, with the Eighth Air Force in England. He was reported missing on a mission over the Ruhr industrial area. The message stated that the right wing of his bomber was shot off by anti-aircraft over the target.

He had been awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in missions over Europe. He was born Jan. 16, 1923, in St. Louis, Mo., and was graduated from Nokomis Township high school in 1941. At the time he entered service he was studying for the ministry at Bob Jones Interdenominational college, Cleveland, Tenn.
