She was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Norfolk, Va., to Austin G. and Helen (Shannon) Rigney. She was adopted by Thomas G. Sexton in 1965. On Sept. 13, 1972, she married William R. Carrick in Chicago.
Formerly of McHenry, she lived in Johnsburg since 1993. A business owner, she owned Curves in Wonder Lake and Johnsburg. For several years, she was an office administrator for several small businesses in the McHenry County area, and for the Dick Blick Art Supply Co. in Highland Park.
A mother of 14 children, she also was active in the community. A strong advocate of the Right to Life organization for McHenry County, she always was generous with her time and support. She also served on the Economic Development Committee in Johnsburg. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. She was very active in church, where she served as cantor, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council 9167, and volunteered for many events.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bill; 13 children, John Carrick of Los Angeles, Sam Carrick of San Diego, William (Diana) Carrick of Los Angeles, Megan (Frank) Carrick of Mundelein, Therese Hulback of Kenosha, Tom (Megan) Carrick of Waukegan, David Carrick of Joliet, Patrick (Nicole) Carrick of Vancouver, Wash., Daniel (Griffin McNulty) Carrick of Portage, Ind., Edward Carrick of Los Angeles, Elizabeth Carrick of Chicago, Mary Kate Carrick of Chicago and Bridget Carrick of Johnsburg; three grandchildren, Joe, Jake and Logan; two sisters, Mary Helen (Larry) McCarthy of Barrington and Patricia (Don) Hagen of St. Louis; two brothers, John (Yvette) Sexton of Fairport, N.Y., and Vincent Sexton of Madison, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Sexton.
She dealt with the 2002 disappearance and presumed death of her son, Brian. She also was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas G. and Helen (Shannon) Sexton; her father, Austin G. Rigney; a brother, Austin; and a sister, Maureen (Bud) Esser.
The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. The visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until prayers are said at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home, before leaving in procession for the 11 a.m. funeral Mass celebration at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg.
