Obituary, Alexandria Argus, Thursday, 04 Nov 1926: Walter Robert Stewart, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Stewart of Alexandria, Nebr., was born in Thayer County Nebraska February 4, 1886 and died Tuesday, October 26, 1926, at the Taylor Hospital, Fairbury, Nebr., after a brief illness, aged 40 years, 8 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Bowers of Lawrence, Nebr., on November 2, 1907 [sic=1906]. To this union were born five sons: Irving, Harrold [sic=Harold], Raymond, Donald and Wayne. He grew to manhood on a farm near Bruning, Nebr. The family resided near Lawrence, Nebr. for a number of years, then locating in Fillmore County, afterward in Thayer County where he resided at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, sons, parents, two brothers, Arthur B. and Verlie W. of Alexandria; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Hall of Geneva, Nebr., and Mrs. Gertrude Kelch [sic] of Alexandria, Mrs. Eva Archer of McDonald, Kans., and Mrs. Pearl Thornburgh of Alexandria besides a host of other relatives and friends. He belonged to the Odd Fellow lodge at Strang, Nebr. He was a much respected neighbor, having the good will of the entire community; a kind indulgent father and a devoted husband. It is evident as to his excellent leadership as a father, he has left as a legacy five of the most manly and upright boys that is an asset to any community. Mr. Stewart was a man that was always just in his transactions with his fellow men, having an ideal character that was consistent at all times. "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joys of thy Lord." Short services were held at the farm home, last Thursday afternoon; then going to the Harmony Church, eighteen miles northwest of Alexandria, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. A. Wilson, pastor of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church, and the body laid to rest in the Harmony cemetery.
