Deceased Name: Anne Jemison Woodward Burt Lundbeck: Last living child of A.H. Woodward dies at 99 Anne Jemison Woodward Burt Lundbeck of Mountain Brook, a woman who grew up in the historic Woodward House and traveled the world, died Friday at 99. She was the last living child of five born to A.H. "Rick" Woodward, the Woodward Iron Co. owner who built Rickwood Field in 1910, and Annie Jemison Woodward. The family moved into the Spanish colonial Woodward House when it was completed in 1924 and gave it to UAB in 1937 (see correction) as the official residence of the UAB president. Born Feb. 13, 1909, Mrs. Lundbeck graduated from the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Va., but never attended college, said her children. "Instead 18-year-old Anne and her sister Martha 'Martee' Woodward were given tickets for a cruise around the world in the 1920s by their uncle . . . (see correction) state Sen. Oscar Underwood," daughter Sandra Burt Arnold said. In 1931 Mrs. Lundbeck married James Marshall Burt Jr. of Opelika, a University of Alabama graduate. He died in 1960 in Baden Baden, Germany. They had two children: Arnold and son James Marshall "Bo" Burt III of Birmingham. Mrs. Lundbeck's second husband was Hilmer Lundbeck, chairman of Swedish American Shipping Lines. "They lived in New York City and became very good friends with Ingrid Bergman and the Duchess of Windsor," Arnold said. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery at The Woodward Mausoleum. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood. EMAIL: [email protected]
