Henry Reese Scovill was one of ten children in the family, some of whom died in infancy. There was an older half-brother, David Adkins Scovill (b.1826), and then the following siblings:
- Everett Scoville (1833-34).
- Everett W. Scoville (1834-1887) - Company A, 2nd U.S. Sharp Shooter Regt.
- Maria Scoville (1835 -1855).
- Helen Scoville Rodgers (1838 -1862) - died while pregnant w/ her first child.
- Martin Luther Scoville (1839 -1863) - Pvt. CO F 4th MN Vol. (d. Vicksburg).
- Charles Scoville (1841-1912) - 26th NY Vol Inf (2nd Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksburg; see book "Glory Was Not Their Companion").
- John Reese Scoville (1845-1845).
- Sarah Ann Scoville (1846-1854).
- John Lemuel Scoville (1848-1917) - Union Army at age 14, lied about his age to get in; was discharged for illness but re-enlisted twice, including a stint in the Navy.

Henry married Laura Lavina Sheldon from Waupun, Fond du Lac Co WI. They lived in Waupun and also Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Their daughter, Laura Margaret Scovill, was born in March of 1856 at Waupun. It was on the 22nd of March that Laura died, either in childbirth or shortly thereafter.

Henry buried his wife in Waupun and, incapable of caring for his infant daughter, left her with Laura's parents, Nathaniel and Electa (Smith) Sheldon, on their farm outside of Waupun. She was thus raised by her grandparents, along with a cousin, also left motherless in 1852, six years her elder, my Great-Grandmother Mary Althea Griffin.

Laura Margaret was known all her life as "Maggie".

In 1880, Henry was at 55 Scott St., in Oshkosh, Winnebago Co WI, working as a carpenter. Living with him were his daughter, now 24, along with his mother-in-law, Electa, now a widow of fifteen years. (Daughter Maggie had had her set of problems having been abandoned by her husband due to monetary scandal and was soon (1881) to be divorced from him.)

In 1905, Henry, alone and 74 years old now, was living in Lincoln, Schley Co WI, in a mortgaged home, working as a carpenter.

In 1910, he was 78 years old, of no occupation, but living with his daughter, Margaret, in Grants Pass, at 816 N. 7 St. in Grants Pass OR; his brother lived only a few houses away, at 850 N. 7 Street, with is wife and children. Maggie stated her occupation was "nurse" in a private home.
It's very possible that the private patient Maggie nurse was her father as it was not too much later that he was entered into the OSIA around Christmastime of 1912. OSIA was the Oregon State Insane Asylum, and died there on 27 January 2013.

Henry's body was buried in the Granite Hill Cemetery in Grants Pass. His brother John, lies not far in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, also in Grants Pass.
-- Submitted by Joann, his wife was my 2nd Great Aunt.
