Charles Hughes Clark was born to William Jerome Clark and Mildred Francis (Hughes) Clark on November 14, 1923 in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and served in North Africa, then England during World War II as a mechanic on the B-17/Flying Fortress.

He married Darlene Richina Ames on February 4, 1946. Charles and Darlene had a daughter, Carol Rose Clark on January 3, 1947.

Charles became a member of the US Air Force when it became a separate branch of service on September 18, 1947. He was assigned to Squadron A-3, 3502nd AFBU (TS) "Pipeline" at Chanute Field, Illinois on January 14, 1948. Then to Squadron E, 1397th AFBU at Westover Field, Massachusetts on February 5, 1948 an then to the 520th M&S Group on July 2, 1948. During the Berlin Blockade, he was first assigned to the 525th Maintenance in Wiesbaden, West Germany on September 1, 1948, and then to the 1603rd Maintenance & Support Squadron at Tripoli, Lebanon on April 1, 1949. His next assignment was Headquarters & Headquarters 1600th Squadron at Westover Air Force Base on August 22, 1949.

Charles next assignment was Headquarters 6000th B/SV in South Korea on February 1, 1952.

He returned to the US an was assigned to the 810th Motor Vehicle Squadron on June 20, 1953 at Biggs Air Force Base, Texas. His next two assignments were the 3750th TTSG SAFV, Texas for School on December 19, 1953 and then the 7th Field Maintenance, 7th Bomber Wing in Carswell Air Force Base, Texas on July 21, 1954.

Charles and Darlene had a son, Charles Hughes Clark, Jr. born on February 17, 1950 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts and a daughter, Audrey Lynn Clark born on June 5, 1953 in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan.

Charles and Darlene were divorced on November 19, 1954 in Ionia County, Michigan.

The next three assignments for Charles were the 3353rd STURON (PATS) in Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois for school on December 1, 1957, 7th Field Maintenance, 7th Bomber Wing in Carswell Air Force Base, Texas on February 13, 1958, and Headquarters 4123rd Strategic Wing in Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, Oklahoma on November 25, 1958. Charles was diagnosed with cancer (he was a heavy smoker) and sent to USAF Hospital Scott, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois for treatment on December 24, 1959. On January 14, 1960 Charles was discharged from the US Air Force on "Permanent Disability Retirement and he died on August 23, 1960 at age 36 years, 9 months, and 9 days old in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

Charles had remarried to Wanda F. Evans and they had four children. Charles Wayne Clark, Pamala Clark, Caroline Clark, and Gary Clark.

He was buried on August 26, 1960 in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.
