Deen Coskrey Bales, of Odessa, passed away late Tuesday night, July 8, 2008, after a short bout with cancer at the Hospice House.

Services were held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Burial followed at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, in the Bales Family plot in Kyle, Texas. Services were entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Deen was born November 28, 1921 in Gatesville, Texas to Thomas and Winnie Coskrey. After husband Leon Sweatt was killed during WWII, she later married J. W. ?Bill? Bales in 1945, a WWII combat veteran, and was married 46 years until his death in 1991. The couple retired in Deen?s home town of Gatesville in 1983. She moved to Odessa in 2000 to be near her son Charles and daughter Shirley and a host of grandchildren. Deen suffered a stroke in early 2001 and lived with her son Charles since that time. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Odessa.

In addition to children, Charles Coskrey and daughter Shirley Lee, both of Odessa, she is also survived by her son, J. W. Bales II of Coppell, Texas.
