Death of Mr. C. E. Solomon
At his home in Montezuma, Mr. Carey Evans Solomon died last Saturday night. The body was brought to Perry last Sunday evening and remained at the home of Mr. C. F. Cooper until Monday morning, when the interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Solomon was the elder son of the late Mrs. H. L. Dennard of Perry, half-brother of Hon. E. L. Dennard and uncle of Mrs. C. F. Cooper.
He was born in Twiggs County in 1840.
During the four years of the War Between the States he was in the Confederate Army, serving faithfully.
In 1863 he married Miss Irene Woolfolk, elder daughter of the late Major and Mrs. John W. Woolfolk, of Houston County. Of this union there were two sons and three daughters, of these one son and two daughters, are living in Montezuma; Mr. John W. Solomon, Mrs. Irene Reid and Mrs. Mary S. Hooks.
For nearly twenty years Mr. Solomon suffered much from acute rheumatism, and for most of that time was obliged to use a crutch or stick. Because of this disability he moved from Houston County to Montezuma, Ga. about 18 years ago.
During many years it was his custom to entertain a number of his Confederate comrades at his annual birthday dinner.
Since young manhood he was a member of the Baptist Church.
After 69 years of a well-spent life, his body was placed beside that of his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
To the bereaved son and daughters, and other relatives, the sincere sympathy of their many friends.
