Interred in Evergreen Cemetery
On Wednesday afternoon of last week, Mrs. Irene W. Solomon, of Montezuma, was buried in Evergreen Cemetery at Perry, the occasion being attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends.
She was the elder daughter of the late Maj. John W. Woolfolk of Houston county, who was at one time one of the largest and most successful planters in the county. The greater portion of her life was spent in this county. Of that family the aged mother, two brothers and two sisters survive her, Messrs, R.S. and Wm. W. Woolfolk of Houston , Mrs. G.A. Clark of Atlanta and Mrs. J.A. Berry of Houston.
Our readers know that her husband, Mr. Carey E. Solomon, was a former citizen of Houston county, a son of the late Mrs. H.L. Dennard of Perry, half-brother of Mr. E.L. Dennard of near Perry.
Mrs. Solomon was held in the highest esteem by a large circle of friends in Houston and her death caused much sorrow. Sincere sympathy is extended the bereaved husband, son, daughters, mother and other relatives.
From the "Montezuma Record" we reproduce the following:
"For several months past Mrs. Solomon had been in bad health and in spite of the very best medical skill she gradually declined in health until the end came to relieve her suffering.
Only last week it was decided to carry her to Atlanta for medical treatment, but it is said that at the sanitarium her loved ones were told she had cancer of the liver, for which there was no cure.
From the time of her arrival in Atlanta she gradually grew weaker until the end came as above stated.
She was fifty-eight years old in June, and on the 4th day of November, 1903, had been married forty years. She was a member of the Baptist church and will be greatly missed by the members of that denomination as well as by all others with whom she co-operated in performing Christian deeds.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Misses Irene J. and Mary S. and Mr. John Solomon, who have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad affliction."
