Death of Mrs. Burnam
Another aged and highly esteemed member of this community has passed from time to eternity, but the memory of her irreproachable life will be honored for all time by the many people who knew her.
On last Sunday morning Mrs. Celia N. Burnam died at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Davis, in Perry.
The burial took place at Evergreen Cemetery at about 12 o'clock, Monday, and a large concourse of people were present to pay the last tribute to the beloved dead.
Mrs. Burnam was well known to our people as the wife and widow of the late Mr. Abner Burnam, and was held in high esteem for her many good qualities of heart. She was about 80 years of age, and a remarkably vigorous lady up to about a week previous to her death.
As far back as the memory of the writer reaches, she had been a resident of Houston county, living in Perry most of the time. She had been a consistant member of the Baptist Church for about fifty years, and we learn that she had read the Bible through thirty times during that period.
She was in fact a woman remarkable in many respects, her every act being directed by a Christian spirit.
Mrs. Burnam leaves only two surviving children, Mrs. J.M. Chastain, of Cuthbert, and Mrs. J.G. Davis of Perry.
The bereaved relatives have the hearty condolence of all who knew her, and they should be consoled by the belief that Mrs. Burnam's name is written in Heaven.
A good woman has gone to her reward, but the influence of her upright walk and Christian works will be a heritage of good to all who knew her.
