Corporal Arthur L. Alveshere was a member of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division and was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on August 26, 1951.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Funeral services for Cpl. Arthur Alveshere, killed in Korean fighting August 26th, will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvey Monday, December 10. Rev. I. M. Norum will officiate and the veterans' color guard and firing squad will take part in the service.

The body is en route from Oakland, Calif., and will arrive in Harvey Friday morning on No. 3. The color guard will escort the body from the train to the Berg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Thon, Gordon Thon, Marvin Thon, Stanley Oxtra, Kenneth Oxtra, Noel Oxtra. Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery.

Arthur Alveshere was born at Harvey, August 23, 1926 and spent his life in this community. He attended the local schools. Alveshere entered military service in the fall of 1950. He trained at Fort Riley, Kansas and in Maryland. In Korea he served with the 9th infantry regiment and was decorated with the Bronze Star for his bravery in action.
