A J Poe served as a private in the 34th Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry (4th Confederate Infantry) Company C.
First listed as a casualty in the first division PCAT at the battle before Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Dec. 31, 1862. He was found to have been slightly wounded.

The A J Poe family moved from Tennessee to Arkansas and then to Texas.
