JANESVILLE — Joseph Francis Hendricks, age 95, of 1405 Linden Ave, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003. He was born September 5, 1908, in Faribault, Minn.

Joe is survived by his son, Kenneth (Diane) Hendricks of Janesville; stepchildren Marvin (June) Duss, Delores (Dale) Fredrickson, both of Eau Claire; grandchildren Kendra (Mike) Story, Kim Hendricks, Kathy (Scott) Murray, Kevin Hendricks, Laurie (Dan) Olin, Michell Kaster, Troy (Jan) Reible, Kara (Aaron) Stecker, Rodney Reible, Tricia (Dennis) Worthing, Konya (Matt) Schuh; step-grandchildren: Kathy (Dave) Kirkham, Debbie (Duane) Anderson, Butch (Wendy) Duss, Terry (Toni) Duss, Randy Duss, Gary (Carrie) Duss, Jeff (Kelly) Duss, Brent Fox; 23 great-grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; daughter, Laurene Reible; stepson, Melvin Duss; and brothers, Frank Hendricks and Albert Hendricks.

Joe’s family would also like to express their deepest appreciation to Donna Gilbertson, Elaine Craig and Sandy Stapleton for their years of loving care for our dear Papa.

“Papa Joe” lived a life full of hard work, determination, and dedication to his family and friends. He started his career as a remodeling contractor, before becoming a co-owner of Modern Tile and Lumber in Janesville. Later, in early retirement, he worked with his son in the roofing and remodeling business. But one of the jobs he will most be remembered for in his life is the job he took at the young age of 68, when he became a father figure to three of his small grandchildren. He and his wife Anna together raised these three children as if they were their own. Throughout his life he showed his love and his dedication to all of his family and many friends. Papa’s hobbies included fishing and gardening, but his biggest joy was giving away the fruits of his hard work to others. In later years, playing cribbage and cards with his special friends filled his days.

Funeral services will be at St. John Lutheran Church in Janesville on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. A burial prayer service will follow in Oakhill Cemetery.

The visitation will be at Schneider Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and again on Thursday at the church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Memorial funds have been established for St. John Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer Research Association.
