Baytown, Texas - Andrew Jefferson Bates Jr., 72, of Baytown Texas and formerly of Thief River Falls died on June 23, 2005. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 27 years, as a locomotive engineer. Bates was a member of Missouri St. Church of Christ. He loved to farm and ranch.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 27, at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas, with David Smith and Jim Gentry officiating. Interment was held at Hill of Rest Cemetery in Baytown. 
His parents, Andrew J. and Betty Thompson Bates, sisters and brother, Juanita Smith, Eunice Slot, Immelda Bailey, Andrea Abernathy, Ibalene Williams, Irene Jeter Verla Bates and Earnest Bates, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Mae Bates of Dayton, Texas; children, Charles Andrew Bates of Baytown, Texas, Randall Jefferson (Ruth) Bates of Pasadena, Texas, Carl “Buddy”  (Jacqie) Barnett of Corpus Christi, Texas, Betty Jean Olson of Thief River Falls, Teresa Deanne  (Wyman) Christianson of Mentor, Andy Dale “Stormy” Bates of Baytown, Emma Webb of Baytown, Darlene Lawson of Tyler and Judy Hendry of Blaine, Wash.
