Shirley Y. Kikela, 73, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 21, 2011.

She was born on June 7, 1937 in Akron to the late Kenneth and Mary (Mills) Dawson. Shirley enjoyed many years as a cook at Elm Ridge Party Center alongside her brother, Darrell. She devoted her life to babysitting and caring for many children, although the role she treasured most was being Michael's loving wife of 46 years, an amazing mom, grandma and homemaker.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepfather, Gerald Ledsome; sister, Deanna Doolittle; and brother, Kenneth Dawson. She is survived by daughters, Yvonne (John) Hart, Brenda (Carlos) Stevens, Michele (Richard) Annis, Lisa (Jim) Finefrock, all of Uniontown; grandchildren, Alicia Landin, Ashley (Joe) Weaver-Misner, Amanda, Brittany, Chelsea and Logan Annis, and Michaela, James, Michael and Taylor Finefrock; brother, Darrell (Joyce) Dawson and sister-in-law Patricia Dawson; also, stepgrandchildren, one great- stepgrandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange Street. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 23, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society , 1900 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313 or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 W. Evergreen Ave., Suite 303, Chicago, IL 60642.
