Ada Thomas Williams-Parsons passed peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, March 27, 2001, in DePaul Medical Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1907, in Great Bridge, Norfolk County, ''Tommie'' was preceded in death by her husband, William Marvin Parsons and her son, William Thomas Parsons.
Tommie, known to the family as Hommie, is survived by her two granddaughters, Katherine A. Busby and her husband, Paul, and Elizabeth C. Soelberg and her husband, Richard, all of Norfolk; three great-granddaughters, Kaitlan, Kelly and Chandler; daughter-in-law, Penny Parsons Harrell and her husband, Bill, of Norfolk; two first cousins, Janet Chesire of Rosell, Ga., and Emma Russell of Virginia Beach; a niece, Frances Dryden of Richmond; cousins, Catherine B. Wiley of Virginia Beach and William D. Wiley of Norfolk. Special thanks goes out to Liza Bayangos and her family, Tommie's caregivers for the the last eight months.
Tommie was a member of the Church of the Ascension; a retired school teacher at Norview and Bayview Elementary schools; a former member of the altar guild of the church and The King's Daughters Circle; a Sunday school teacher; a member of the Episcopal Women Group; a buyer with Ames & Brownley Department Store that was in downtown Norfolk; delivered Meals on Wheels to many who were younger that she; was a graduate of Longwood College and was captain of the tennis group.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of the Ascension, Newport Avenue and Talbot Hall Road, by Father David Davenport. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Avenue, tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Ascension.
