Ethel M. Smith, 83, a resident at the Penn Hall Nursing Center, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the home.
Born December 6, 1927 in Needmore, PA, she was a daughter of the late Nebraska H. and Pearl M. Mellott DeShong.
Ethel was a graduate of the Warfordsburg High School. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg and attended the Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg.
Ethel retired from Mellon Bank, Shippensburg and was formerly employed at Keystone Insurance Company and Kilduff's Florist, both in Harrisburg.
Surviving is her husband of 61 years, William R. Smith, Chambersburg, one son, Jeffrey W. Smith and his wife Diane, Butler, six grandchildren Holly, Mychael, Jamie, Daniel, Rebecca, Lieut. JG, US Navy and Thomas, two sisters, Alice Mellott, McConnellsburg and Charlotte Morris, California, one brother, Boyd DeShong, Needmore and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, one sister, Goldie McCray.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Penn Hall with the Rev. Michael C. Weigel and Chaplain Brenda Doyle officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery, Artemas, PA. There will be no viewing or visitation.
