Elvira Lorena (Newton) Houghton -
Was a devoted member, as was her husband, Charles Chandler Houghton, and also their children, at the First Universalist Church of Worcester, Mass., where Elvira and Charles, both served as elected Deacon's. Also, Mrs. Elvira L. Houghton, served for many years in, "The Mothers' Sewing Class" which was organized in 1893, to provide work for mothers, and also aid the society, in providing clothing. Elvira L. Houghton, was in charge of this organization until 1907.

And so sadly it was, on the 16th day of August 1911, that the widow of, Charles Chandler Houghton, would die, aged 76 years, 3 months, and 22 days; in her home at, 402 Grafton Street, Worcester, Massachusetts. On August 19, 1911, she would be tenderly laid to rest in the Houghton Mausoleum, at Hope Cemeter, in Worcester, Massachusetts, next to her beloved husband, Charles Chandler Houghton, and which is filled now, with the many souls of their family. May they forever rest in eternal peace...

Hope Cemetery ~
Was dedicated in 1852, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 1998. Significant preservation projects have included restoration of the Houghton Mausoleum, which was made possible through the dedicated efforts of "The Friends of Hope Cemetery" which was founded, in 1991.
