Helen C. Boelling, 81, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center of cancer. Services will be Wednesday September 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens where interment will occur.
Helen was born June 29, 1922 in Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Samuel L. and Pearl J. Gardner. She spent most of her life as a resident of Des Moines, moving to Ankeny in 2002.
Helen worked in area school lunchrooms for many years, and retired from Farm Bureau in West Des Moines in 1987 after 10 years of service. She loved crafts, most recently painting, sewing, and making porcelain dolls. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, antique shopping, computer games and spending time and keeping in touch with her family by e-mail.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert and wife Marta Boelling of Des Moines, James and wife, Karen Boelling of Ankeny, Thomas Boelling of Ankeny; daughter Melinda and husband Dean Martin of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; sister Billie Johnson of Creston; five grandchildren, Craig Boelling of Cumming, Brad Boelling of Arlington, TX, Joel Boelling of Des Moines, Erin Boelling of Denver, CO; and Tiffany Wych of Des Moines; two great grandchildren, Alexis Boelling of Arlington TX, and Callie Wych of Des Moines; one cousin Marie Zawilla of Chicago, IL; a host of nephews and nieces and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
