Colonel 57th Virginia Regiment (CSA) Armisteads Brigade Picketts Division Longsteets Corp Army of Northern Virginia 04/24/1862: Promoted to Captain (Company A) 2/04/1863: Promoted to Major 7/05/1863: Promoted to Colonel 5/03/1865.

Following the Civil War, he wrote a booklet recapping the 57th Virginia Regiment activities during the war.
