Jefferson Cox, the son of David Sutton and Rachel (Brown) Cox, was born June 6, 1849 in Highland, Ohio. He married his first wife, Eliza Brown Reeves, in Pike, Illinois on January 25, 1871. They were the parents of Mary Alvira (Brokaw), Lydia (Badger), and two infants who apparently died at birth. When Eliza passed away in 1874, Jefferson married her sister, Mary Elizabeth Reeves, in 1876. They were the parents of Charles, Lily May, and an infant. After Mary's death in 1884, Jefferson married Emma Elizabeth Hill with whom he had four more children: Pearl E., Doras Darius, Earl Clark, and Alphaeus J.
