Irene Jordan knew George Whitaker "Jinks" as he was called by his friends, since she was a little girl. George had another family before their marriage, with is 1st wife dying young. Irene and Jinks were married on May 8 1905 she being a young 16. He had watched her grow up and fell in love after his first wife died. Together they had 11 children, with a set of twins being born premature and one baby girl being stillborn. Irene helped raise Boone Whitaker from GH's first marriage. They lived in Newport TX for many years moving to Hereford later to ranch and raise cotton.
She was a sweet, feisty and lovable lady and I loved her very much. They were married 56 years before Jinks' death. She came and lived with us for a couple of years before her death in 1977. I was blessed to be able to have her attend our wedding in June of the same year.
