Richard Lawrence Kingston was born to Richard and Mary Louise Smith Kingston, the youngest of ten children.
On June 5, 1917 Richard registered at Long Lake, Florence County, Wisconsin the WWI. He was employed in the area, working for his oldest brother, Henry Kingston in the lumber industry. Lawrence was single and recorded himself as being medium height and built, with light brown hair. He was 24 years old. He ended up as a private first class in the US Army, enlisting on May 24, 1918, service number 2-823-785 and was discharged on September 3, 1919.
In 1919 he married Amanda Eleanor McCutcheon, daughter of Alexander and Emily McGorgan McCutcheon. Lawrence was 25 and Amanda was 22. For a short time, they remained in Long Lake, living on Main Street. Lawrence resumed his job as a logger.
Their first son Keith was born in 1920 but sadly died in 1921 and he was buried in their new home town, Gillett, Wisconsin. Son Alan was born (1921-1998), Beth (1923-2006), Anita (1925-2014) and finally Kathleen in 1932. All of the children attended Gillett schools. Richard would make a career in the insurance business.
Richard and Amanda were well known residents of Gillett and active in the community. They lived their years in their home at the top of Birch Ave., Gillett.
