Obit: Gordon Shearer Rites Sunday Services for Gordon R. Shearer, 74, will be sunday, 1:30 p.m. from the Stone Funeral Home. Walter Earle, Seventh Day Adventist, will officiate and interment will be in Greenwood Cementery. Mr. Shearer died Friday morning at Lockwook-MacDonald Hospital. He was born in Bear Creek Township August 15, 1894. He served overseas with the US Army during World War I. He married Ruth M. Hawkes in New York City February 6, 1918. She died in October, 1966. They lived in Kegomic until 1927 when they moved into Petoskey. Mr. Shearer worked at the Tannery and the Michigan Maple Block Co. and was maintenance man at the Post Office until retirement in 1960. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mr. Shearer is survived by four sons, Robert, of Luling, Texas; Trenton C., of Davison, Mich. James H., of Petoskey and Gerald L. of Santa Clara Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Norva Avery, of Van Nuis, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; a brother, John M. Shearer, of Traverse City and one sister, Edith Shearer, of San Leandro, Calif. The body is at the Stone Funeral Home where friends may call. The family suggests that anyone who wishes to honor the memory of Mr. Shearer may contribute in his name to the Chruch Mission Society.Transcribed from Petoskey News Review, Saturday, May 10, 1969.
