RUSSEL O. SMILEY, 84, DIES
Russel O. Smiley, 84, of Hope, died at 3:45 o'clock Monday afternoon at Sharp's nursing home near Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Norman Funeral Home in Hope by the Rev. Raymond Brown of Edinburgh. Burial will be at the Moravian Cemetery in Hope. The casket will be open from 7 until 9 o'clock Wednesday night and after 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Madelon Miller of Columbus and Mrs. Juanita Walton of Edinburgh; a son, Charles Smiley of Columbus; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Shipley of Anderson.
Mr. Smiley was born Sept. 26, 1874, in Hope to Curtis and Mary (Bruner) Smiley. In 1898 he was married to Miss Ona Cotner, who died Aug. 21, 1957. Mr. Smiley was a retired farmer and had lived his entire life in the Hope community. He had been in ill health for a year.
