Albert had the nickname of "Butch," mostly because he was quite small in stature but let the world believe he was really quite a rugged individual. He joined the National Guard and rose to the grade of First Sergeant but that was the total extent of his military career. He worked as a streetcar conductor in the early part of his working life, but soon became a postal carrier, then a parcel post carrier, then a postal clerk, and finally a supervisor of the branch postal station in Mendota, Wisconsin. He served at both the East Side postal station and the main post office. He retired in 1955 after 40 years with the Post Office.

He was a member of Memorial United Church of Christ, the Masonic order Hiram Lodge No. 50 and the Shrine
