BLACKNEY, Richard James - Of Flint, age 59, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held 1p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation 1-3p.m. and 5-8p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Richard was born in Flint on May 3, 1952, son of James and Rosemary Blackney and was a resident of Flint. On June 18, 1977, he married Terry Hammel in Flint and they were married for 34 years. Richard was a former member of the Flint Elks Club. He was a dedicated engineer for General Motors, where he was employed for 33 years in a successful career launching new vehicles. He retired in October 2009 due to health reasons. Surviving are wife, Terry; sons, Ryan and Kyle; mother, Rosemary;
sister Linda and husband Bill Robertson;
