Dennis Paul Gregory O'Brien, 35, of Bedford, IN, passed away Thursday, November 3, 1988, in Monroe County, Indiana. He was born in Bedford, Indiana August 3, 1953, the son of Dorothy Jane (Denniston) and Gregory C. O'Brien. At the time of his death, Dennis was running as a Democratic Candidate for Mayor of Bedford, Indiana.

He was a 1971 graduate of Bedford High School and attended Indiana State University. He enlisted in the US Navy in September 18, 1972 and served in Vietnam, was discharged from the Navy August 16, 1976.

Dennis formerly served as the Town Marshal in Oolitic, Indiana, and was briefly a police officer in Mitchell Indiana. He was also a Sales Representative for Bloomington Business Machines in the mid 1980's.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Gillen Post 33 of the American Legion in Bedford, and Spring Mill Lodge No. 172 of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was instrumental in creating the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Courthouse Lawn in Bedford.

Dennis was very proud of his Irish Heritage and very close to all his extended family in several states (And, I think, In Ireland). He loved Rachmaninoff music.

Dennis never married, and is survived by his sister, Jane Ann O'Brien Morrison and several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
