William McGhee was born in Washington County, TN on 8 March 1818 and died 14 October 1893 and was a son of John N. McGhee and Sarah McGhee. (one source says her maiden name was Kincaid, while another says it is Snapp).
William and his parents lived in Cedar Bluff before he moved to the area now known as McGhee's Bend. William joined the M.E. Church at Cedar Bluff in 1842. William McGhee married Nancy Sandlin on 9 March 1849 (per his obituary, but probably 1844). She was born in April 1824 and died 21 July 1905. Both are buried in the McGhee family cemetery in Leesburg, Cherokee Co., AL. William and Nancy had the following children:
1. John Woodville McGhee- born abt 1845 and died 2 March 1871. He was married to Susan Zenobia "Nobia" (maiden name unk). She was born abt. 1850 and died 25 July 1872. They are both buried in the McGhee family cemetery. They had two children: Dr. Joseph D. McGhee and Susan M. "Sudie" McGhee (b. 3 Oct. 1866-d. 29 July 1919).
2. Joseph A. McGhee- born 8 March 1848- died 7 July 1863 buried in Cedar Bluff cemetery
3. Abraham O. Sandlin McGhee- born 27 December 1848- died 13 October 1912-buried McGhee cemetery
4. James Roland McGhee- born August 20, 1850-died 19 April 1920. He was married to Elizabeth "Bettie" F. Adrain on 23 February 1879. She was born April 1848. They are both buried in the McGhee family cemetery. They had a son named Harvey Woodie (probably short for Woodville) McGhee (b. Feb. 1888) and a daughter named Nettie (b. 1880; 3 months old at time of census).

5. Glenn K. McGhee- born 21 November 1854. He died at Madill, OK on 26 March 1915. He was married to Anna Yaikow on 28 August 1880 in Cherokee Co., AL. She was born 6 October 1865 and died on 5 October 1954 at Madill, OK. Both are buried at the Oakland cemetery, Marshall Co., OK.
6. Martha "Hattie" McGhee- born abt. 1858. died ?
7. Henry T. McGhee- born 17 October 1860- died 31 January 1936. He was married to Martha "Mattie" R. Tripp on 14 May 1885 in Cherokee Co., AL. She was born 22 February 1866- died 15 December 1916. Both are buried in Fairview cemetery. They had the following children: Roxcie V. (b. March 1886), Edna E. (b. July 1887), P.P. McGhee, Fred S. McGhee, Ross McGhee, Raiford McGhee, Nora McGhee and Bertha McGhee.
8. Araminta McGhee- born 29 April 1863- died 29 March 1933. She was married to Joseph Anderson Long on 2 January 1890 in Cherokee Co., AL. He was born 7 April 1864 and died 15 March 1936. Both are buried at Fairview cemetery. They had a son named Arthur Sandlin Long (born 1 Nov. 1890-died 6 Feb. 1977).
9. Allie William McGhee- born 4 October 1865 and died 7 December 1937 at Madill, OK. . He was married to Grace Roberson/Robinson in 1885 (?). She was born 12 February 1867 and died on 27 January 1910. They are both buried at the Oakland cemetery, Marshall Co., OK.
They had the following children: William Carl (b.30 Aug. 1885- d. 19 July 1944; buried Oakland cemetery), Maud E. (b. Nov. 1887), Ethel G. (b. July 1889), Annie S. (b. 28 Sept. 1895-died 5 Jan. 1976 in Kern Co., CA; married ? Valentine and John Bowles) and Nathan L. (b. 28 May 1897- d. July 1972 in Chowchilla, Madera Co., California)

"Uncle William McGhee of McGhee's Bend, on last Friday fell from the platform of his ginhouse and sustained fatal injuries. He fell head first, a distance of 9 ½ feet, mashing his nose and fracturing the skull. He died about noon-day, Saturday, from what his physicians say was "concussion of the brain." He enjoyed careful attention at the hands of Drs. Will C. Darnall and Joe D. McGhee.
William McGhee was born in Washington county, Tenn. on the 8th day of March 1818. He moved to Cherokee county, Ala. on the 10th day of October 1837. He was married to Nancy Sandlin on March 9, 1849. At the same time with is wife he connected himself with the M.E. church at Cedar Bluff in 1842.
He died October 14, 1893; aged 75 years, 6 months and 6 days. .............
At his request the funeral services were conducted at Fairview church by Rev. T.A. Kerr and was interred last Sunday at the family cemetery. (Coosa River News, Friday, October 20, 1893)"
