William W. Baker, 59 of Elkton, MD, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at home.

Born in Elkton, MD, on February 5, 1946, he was a son of the late James William and the late Geraldine (Warf) Baker. He was a life long resident of Cecil County. Mr. Baker retired in 1998 from the Newark Parts Department of the Chrysler Corporation, after 29 years of service. He also held several offices of the U.A.W. Local 404, Newark, Delaware.

His life service with the Singerly Volunteer Fire Company included serving as ambulance director. He served as Vice President and President of the Cecil County Democratic Club; he served on the Cecil County Democratic Central Committee for 4 years; he served on the Cecil County Jail Board; and he was an active member and supporter during John F. "Jack" Dewitt´s campaign for Cecil County Sheriff.

His hobbies included horse racing, baseball, football, and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Baker of Elkton, MD; two daughters, Cheryl Cooper and husband Larry of Elkton, MD, and Barbara Rorrer and husband James of Abingdon, MD; one sister, Virginia Christine May of Elkton, MD; and two brothers, James Baker of Mitchellville, MD, and Gary Baker of Edgewood, MD; grandchildren, Brandon C., Diana, Brandon S., Michael, Courtney, Mandi, Ashley,
and Danielle; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Cooper.

Funeral services with full Fireman's honors will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 2, 2005 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

The Rev. Karen F. Bunnell of Elkton United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2332, Elkton, MD 21922.
