Rosary will be said for Manuel "Memey" Lopez Lara, 59, 613 Presidio St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at San Jose Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery. The Rev. John Elmer will officiate.
Lara died Monday at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. He was born May 26, 1933, in Carlsbad.
He had worked for Western Brothers Produce and the Riverside Country Club, and retired from the city's water department in 1989.
His wife, Guadalupe Lara preceded him in death on Jan. 12.
Lara was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church, was active in San Jose Senior Citizen Center and was a volunteer at the Community Soup Kitchen.
He is survived by one son, Manuel Leo Lara of Carlsbad; two daughters, Anna Lara and Angelina Ramirez both of Carlsbad; his parents, Elauterio and Guadalupe Lara, of Carlsbad; four brothers, Nino, Pablo, Jimmy and Victor Lara, all of Carlsbad; two sisters, Juanita Rocha of Tularosa, N.M., and Susana Venegas of Carlsbad; and six grandchildren.
