Marguerite Peetz Kaler, age 99, passed away on September 8, 2009. Marguerite was born on October 23, 1909 to Adolf Peetz and Rosa Koenig Peetz and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She married her husband of 32 years on October 27, 1930.

She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1928. She will always be remembered for her love of laughter, sense of adventure, service in the community and devotion to family. We remember our wonderful mother teaching us to work around our home, washing clothes on an old ringer type machine, hanging them on clothes lines, ironing, cleaning house, cooking, and sewing. Her name sake, Marguerite Ann loved the sewing the most and is an accomplished seamstress as her mother was. We remember coming home from school, opening the back screen door and the ginger bread would still be hot from the oven. We were taught to love Jesus at a very young age and attended church as a family. Mother played the piano, sang and taught us to sing. Since this was before air conditioning, we entertained our neighbors who would comment to Marguerite how much they enjoyed the music flowing from our home.

She was widowed by 52 years of age, went to Durham Business College and made the highest grades in her class.

Marguerite was employed by Spohn Hospital and James R. Dougherty Jr. School of Nursing as house mother. Marguerite always made herself available to assist her children and grandchildren when they were going through life's unexpected difficulties.

Marguerite is preceded in death by her husband, John Fred Kaler; her parents, Adolf and Rosa Peetz; three brothers, F. A. Peetz, Robert D. Peetz and Richard L. Peetz, and her grandson John M. Hand, Jr.

Marguerite P. Kaler is survived by her five children, Rose Marie Hand (John), John Kaler (Pat), Marguerite Ann Vatzlavick (Vick), Elaine Bates (Rich), and Robert Kaler (Carol); 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with seven step grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren whom she loved as her own and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hand, John Kaler II, Martin Kaler, Peter Journeay Kaler, C. Charles Sherek Jr., Leonard Sherek, Jim Vatzlavick and Allan Vatzlavick.

She enjoyed participation in club work with the Grandmother's Club, Nautilus Club and City Federation.

We must thank Marguerite Ann Vatzlavick who managed the donations, from all the family to provide for Mother's care and Elaine (Rich Bates) whom she lived with for 13 years.

A Thank you to First Baptist Church Ministers who visited and the Flower Ministry. Mother enjoyed the flowers and the visits very much.

We could not have managed without Jesus and Legacy Hospice Dr. George Benavidez M.D., Walter L. Parr, Jr., (chaplain), Jan Alexander R.N., Monica Rodriguez (social worker), Julie Repka L.V.N, Kristen Brozo R.N., Lilia Garcia CNA, Virginia Assefaw (nail tech), Pat Reyes her faithful helper for 2 years, Dr. Kelly Hanna D.D.S who came to our home to help her keep her teeth, Dr. David Sutter M.D. and Dr. Paul Ayars M.D. Thank you everyone!
