SARAH A. BALSLEY (Deceased)
At the home of her daughter, Anna of South Meadow Lane on Wednesday, April 2, 1902, Mrs. Sarah Balsley, age 93 yrs. 6 mo. and 21 days. Deceased was born September 9, 1809 on a farm near Jacobs Creek, Fayette County, being a daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Robb.
In her 22nd year she came to Connellsville and since made her home, except a short term of residence in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Balsley had a remarkable memory and was able to mention the date of her birth a few days before her death. She first suffered her illness of life when 84 year of age being attacked with GRIP. Considering her age at that time, Mrs. Balsley's health slowly failed.
Previous to her illness she worked incessantly and thought nothing of walking a mile while visiting her relatives which she greatly enjoyed. Her grandchildren number early 40 and her great- grandchildren equal almost twice this number. Three great-great-grandchildren swell the number of her descendants to more than 100 and leave her an undisputed title as grandparent to the town.
The most pleasing events in her declining years of her life were in Sept. 9th of each year when with her descendants she celebrated the day of her birth.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. Margaret Page, Anna and Ross Balsley of Connellsville and Worth of Pittsburgh.
Rev. M.J. Sleppy of Methodist Episcopal Church will conduct the funeral services at 2:00 this afternoon. Internment will be made in the Hill Grove Cemetery.
