Jennette was the sixth born child and the only girl born to Daniel R. McLaughlin and Helen B. McGeorge.

According to her death record and census records, Jennette and her husband, Samuel, came to live in the US in 1869. Together they had five sons:

1. Sheldon Roderic (1865-1939)
2. Edgar T. (1869 - 1958)
3. Bertram J. (1870 - 1956)
4. Omar L. (1872 - 1958)
5. Laurel Sheldon (1875 - 1894)
