John William Scannell was born 11 May 1926 on a farm east of Guthrie, OK. He was the son of John J. Scannell and Mary Augusta Larchey Scannell, the 5th of six children (Theresa, Anthony, Agnes, Joseph, and Charles.) He attended Chappell and Prairie Grove Schools. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. After the war, he married Velma Jean Yates and they had 2 children and 4 grandchildren. The family lived on a farm east of Guthrie, and John and Velma continued living there after their children left home. John worked for Furrows Greenhouse until his retirement. He continued to farm and raise stock cattle until his death on 20 Feb 2009.
