Death Takes "Sam" Ward, Polled Herefored Breeder - Death Tuesday night at Salem Community Hospital claimed the widely known Samuel E "Sam" Ward, 87, Polled Herefore cattle breeder and veteran farmer on the New Waterford Road. The south side Middle School stands on land partitioned from the Ward holdings. The elderly Ward had been a patient at the hospital a week. Death was ascribed to a heart condition. Mr Ward was born Aug 18, 1884 , in elkrun township, the son of Ira F and Ethel L Rupert Ward. He residced for 24 years on the farm at the rural Columbiana address, and formerly resided in the Signal-elkrun township area. he was a 60 year member of Negley Masonic Lodge, the Commandery of Salem, Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland, the Amerecian Herefore Association, and the American Polled Herefore Association. Mr Ward was married to Mary B Billingsley, who preceded him in death in 1966. Surviving are a son, John S Ward of Columbiana, and a sister in law, Mrs. Martha Harris of Lisbon. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Warrick Funeral Home, and Rev Paul T "Gerrard, paston emertus of the Lisbon Presbyterian Church, will conduct the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Masonic services will be held at 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Lisbon Cemetery.
