BILLY GENE REID of Sugar Land, Texas was born November 21, 1936 in Hallettsville, Texas and passed from this life on October 24, 2011 in Katy, Texas after suffering for many years with Parkinson's disease.
Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his infant son, Daron Davis Reid, his brother James Reid, and his parents Stanley and Iris Reid of Edna, Texas.
During his working career, Mr. Reid was employed by Mobil Oil Company, Texas Highway Department, Litwin, Sirrine, CRS, Crawford Russell, MEP, Foster Wheeler and Aker-Kvaerner. His job assignments took him to Rome, St. Croix, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and numerous cities within the U.S.
Mr. Reid was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. He met Bonnie Davis at the Central Church of Christ and they were married there on December 16, 1960. He was a founding member and deacon at the Westbury Church of Christ. He was a founding member, deacon, and elder at the Eldridge Road Church of Christ in Sugar Land where he also served as chairman of the building committee.
Mr. Reid leaves to mourn his passing: his devoted wife of 50 years, Bonnie; daughter Mary Ellen and husband Gary Owen; son Larry Gene and wife Kathy Reid; son Nathan Lyle Reid; and daughter Corrie Elizabeth and husband Scott Ghaffari. His seven grandchildren were his pride and joy: Claire and Katie Owen; Larry Jr. (Chip) and Carter Reid; and Sophie, David and Harper Ghaffari. Mr. Reid also leaves behind one step-granddaughter, Lindsay Scanlan, and three step-great-grandchildren, Collin, Jack, and Caroline Scanlan. Also surviving are three sisters, four sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Reid, a proud life-long Texan, will be laid to rest in the historic Morton Cemetery in Richmond, Texas, near the graves of Jane Long and Mirabeau B. Lamar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28 at Sugar Land Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Road in Sugar Land, Texas. Visitation will be held there from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27.
