Jack D. Harlan, 69, of Abingdon, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. He was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Bushnell, the son of Donald and Nellie Dean Harlan. He married Philena Morgan in Farmington in 1952. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1981. Survivors include two sons, Jack C. Harlan, Sr., Galesburg and William L. D. Harlan, Kirkwood; one brother, Bob Harlan, Port Jerves, N.Y.; and one sister, Annabelle Strode, Abingdon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joey Harlan, one brother and four sisters. He graduated from Bushnell High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean /Conflict. He had lived in Abingdon since 1954 and had worked at the Alton Box Company, former Benner T. Foods and Kroger Grocery Store in Galesburg. He also worked for the city of Abingdon for 25 years. He was a member of Abingdon Christian Church, Lifetime Member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, member of VFW #2257 in Galesburg, member of Illinois Police Association and a member of the Sheriff's Association, a member of National Rifle Association and a former member of Abingdon Auxiliary Police and a former Scout Leader. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 pm. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon and Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial was in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #381. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Cemetery Beautification Fund or Knox County Humane Society.
