Richard N. Hartleroad, 91, of Macy, passed away peacefully at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Marion. He was born in Peru on March 24, 1920 the son of Ray and Ruth Brenton Hartleroad. Richard married Anna Lee Drake on Sept. 20, 1948 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1992.
As part of America's Greatest Generation, Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII. His military decorations include the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Richard was a retired plumbing and heating salesman.
He is survived by his sons Richard Hartleroad and his wife Louise of Peru, Randall Hartleroad and his wife Donna of Ft. Wayne, and Voyle Hartleroad and his wife Helen of Butler; daughters Bernice Armstrong and her husband William of Arcadia, Fla., Jeanine Cripen and her husband Ben of Macy, Ramona Baldridge and her husband Mike of Rome City, and Latrisha Krontz and her husband Robert of Angola, 20 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is a sister Ruth Ann Tollison, Winona Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna Lee and three brothers, Ray, Robert and Joseph Hartleroad.
A service celebrating the life of Richard N. Hartleroad will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, with Pastor Bill Weaver and Voyle Hartleroad officiating. Military graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Butler Cemetery in Butler.
Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the United Cerebral Palsy of Indiana.
