THE DAILY TRIBUNE (JOHNSTOWN, PA), TUESDAY 13 FEB 1930, P. 14:

NAPOLEON HAYNES IS DEAD IN TEXAS; WELL KNOWN HERE
Grandfather and Parents Were Early Settlers in Johnstown

Napoloen Locke Haynes, last of the Reuben Haynes family, early settlers in Johnstown, died at Corpus Christie [sic], Tex., on Tuesday of last week, aged 83 years, eight months and 28 days. Funeral services were held in Corpus Christie.
Mr. Haynes was born in the State of Iowa on may 5, 1856, son of Reuben and Margaret (Monroe) Haynes. He was a grandson of Joseph and Sara (Parks) Haynes, among the earliest settlers in Johnstown. His parents immigrated from Pennsylvania to Iowa before the Civil War. After spending a few years there they returned to this state and settled on the Joseph Haynes farm near the Picking Curve on the Lincoln Highway, near Jennerstown. When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Johnstown and settled on Napoleon Street. Napoleon Haynes worked in a brick yard at Franklin operated by James Robb, with his brothers John F. Haynes and Joseph Haynes. At the age of 21 years, Napoleon Locke Haynes went west and finally settled in the State of Texas, never returning to Johnstown.
He was married to Sallie Ely of Vaiden, Miss., on August 27, 1889. Mrs. Haynes survives him, with the following children: Jessie E. (Haynes) Vaughn, Toppenish, Wash.; Sidney Roy Haynes, Corpus Christie, Tex.; Herbert Clay Haynes, Dallas, Tex.; Sadie May (Haynes) Cook, McGregor, Tex.; Emmie Louise Haynes, Corpus Christie, and David Cochron Haynes, Dallas, Tex. Mr. Haynes leaves 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Haynes was an uncle of Mrs. Nellie O. Benford and her sister, Lillian M. Haynes, 1142 McKinley Avenue, having been a brother of their father, John Franklin Haynes, who died June 23, 1937. Napoleon L. Haynes was well known to the older generation of Johnstown. He was visited at Corpus Christie by Mrs. Benford, her father, mother and sister, in January, 1924. During a trip to the West Coast and South in August, 1939, Mr. and Mrs. Robert N. Benford visited the Napoleon Haynes family in Corpus Christie.
