James H. Wiser was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 29, 1902 to Joseph Peter Wiser and Alice Susan Cook Wiser. He died on Oct. 1, 1968 in Perrysburg, Ohio after suffering a heart attack while driving. His car hit a tree between his home and that of his son's home on White Road in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, O. He worked 32 years at LOF Glass Company in Rossford, Ohio as a stationary engineer in the power house retiring in 1966. He was very mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything. He also did welding for people. He was christened in Grace EUB Church in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was given the middle name of Henry after his grandfather, William Henry Cook who went by the name "Henry". In 1918 sixteen year old James H Wiser, inspired by the war book "Over the Top", decided to join the service and help the American war effort. While he and a friend were walking they decided to join the artillery then they could ride instead of walk. The two youths lied about their age and were soon on their way to Mississippi for training camp. Disenchantment followed quickly when the boys discovered that the artillery guns were pulled or packed on the mules and the men walked.
He was a veteran of World War 1, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the LOF Old Timer's Club. He and his wife Vera had three children: James J Wiser, Peggy Arlene Wiser Snyder, and Nancy Ann Wiser Johnson.
