Louis Edward Hobgood passed away in a tragic accident. He was a typical curious little boy, who loved exploring the world around him. He was attempting to see what was in a barrel, while playing in the large yard of his home, when he accidentally fell into the aforementioned barrel, and drowned in less than 5 inches of water before either of his parents could reach him.
Although it was no one's fault, the death of their precious only son haunted his parents for the rest of their lives. They made absolutely sure that each of the many neighborhood children who played with their three daughters in that big wonderful yard of theirs, were careful and responsible, and that we all understood how fragile life could be.
My family lived next door to Mr. Ed and Mrs. Ivey when I was a child, and many years later I had the pleasure and privilege of introducing them to my husband and children, who grew to love them almost as much as my parents and I did.
