She was born Nov. 29, 1926, to Carl and Mary Verre. She was a 1944 graduate of Morton High School, after which she was employed by NBC in Chicago. After a Buckingham Fountain surprise proposal, she married George J. "Twink" Letzter on April 23, 1949, in Berwyn.
Bringing their 5-year-old daughter, Lynne, to their new home in Johnsburg, they soon welcomed their second child, Scott. Six years later, their family was complete with the birth of a baby boy, Jeffrey.
Throughout her adult life, she was a devoted parishioner at St. John's Catholic Church, where she was a choir member for more than 25 years. Her passion for singing allowed her to sing with St. John's choir for Pope John Paul II in Vatican City in 2002.
She was a member of the Keenagers, and through her love of reading, she volunteered for more than 20 years with the McHenry County College Adult Literacy Program and as an ESL and English literacy tutor. Her fun loving, thoughtful spirit will live with those she touched forever.
She is survived by her three children, Lynne Dritlein of Cary, Scott (Lori) Letzter of Johnsburg and Jeff (fiancée Lori) Letzter of Spring Grove; eight grandchildren, Amy (Craig) Winkelman, Julie (Andrew) Freund, Beth (Charlie) Hagelskamp, Steven Letzter, Holly Dritlein, Jenna Letzter, Michael Letzter and Brian Letzter; and four great-grandchildren, Kate and Tori Winkelman and Luke and Lyla Hagelskamp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
