Wayne Montgomery "Red" Boyer, was born Jan 16, 1903 and died March 30, 1966. He was the last of six children to George Boyer and his wife; all his five siblings were born in the 1800s. Duncannon is the area for his family. His father and mother both passed away in 1930, about six months apart. George Boyer, among other things, ran a general store in Duncannon, was considered an associate judge of Perry County (in those days) and was involved in construction jobs "out of town" on occasion. He was also involved, somehow, with the old PA Canal system, a branch which located around the Juniata and Susquehanna River connections. Louis or Lewis, his oldest brother was born exactly 17 years before Wayne, same birth date. Lewis would drive over from Perry County to visit Wayne on Water Street, this in the late 50s, early 60s. Lewis died in 1964, and Wayne in 1966. Three of Red's four brothers (Lewis, George, Wallace and Elton) served in WWI. Wayne's age resulted in his being too young for WWI and too old for WWII. His only sister had two daughters, both believed to be alive currently [2009], living in the Duncannon area.
Wayne came to Port Royal in 1937 to assist in building the new River Bridge. He met Isabelle Kirkwood, and they got married. He and "old King Oscar", among others, were assigned to construction of the concrete piers of the bridge project.
