FREDERICK A. HIPPS, 65, died June 8, 1997, at a local hospital. He was a retired quality control engineer for Litton Ship Systems.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Nolan Funeral Home, 225 N. Weber St. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Ave., with the Rev. Rebecca Frank officiating.

Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
Mr. Hipps was born April 17, 1932, in Asheville, N.C., to Jay A. and Frances (Moody) Hipps.

He was married April 3, 1972, in Bessemer, Mich., to Iris E. Moody Hipps, who lives in Colorado Springs.

He also is survived by seven sons, Dan, Steve and James, all of Colorado Springs, Fred of Spokane, Wash., William Kirchoff of Crowley, Texas, Mark Kirchoff of Gaithersburg, Md., and Tim Kirchoff of Taylor, Texas; three daughters, Georgeanna Walters and Shari Kirchoff, both of Colorado Springs, and Stephanie Brim of Denver; a brother, James Thomas of Normandy, Tenn.; five sisters, Betty King of Norfolk, Va., Alliene Warren of Asheville, Sara Bellis of Norwalk, Calif., Frances Parrish of Windsor, Va., and Martha Anne Davis of Chesapeake, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Canaday and a grandson.

Mr. Hipps served in the Air Force for four years. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, AARP and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He earned his commercial pilot's rating in 1958.

Mr. Hipps was a loving and gentle husband, father and grandfather who loved life and lived it to the fullest.
