Arvella Eloise Phillips Nelson, 94 of Springfield began walking on the streets of glory on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:54 p.m. at the James River Care Center in Springfield, MO. She passed away from post surgery complications due to a fall she took while dancing. She was born on Sept. 2, 1917 the daughter of Albin Einsen Phillips and Rosa Mae Pinegar Phillips. Arvella worked for many years at Lilly Tulip Manufacturing Company. She spent her life making people laugh. Her sense of humor and love for life was infectious. Her passions were telling people about Jesus and making them feel special with a warm freshly baked homemade pie. She is survived by her sons Earl Cary Skidmore, Mickey Skidmore and his wife Eleanor, Harold Skidmore and his wife Ruth, her two daughters Peggy Roberts and her husband David, and Rita Kay Sanders, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren and one brother Harold Dean Phillips. She is preceded in death by both parents, two sons; Bobby Gene Smith and John Edward Skidmore, one grandson, Michael Conway, three sister's Hazel Skidmore, Erma Baker, and Gertrude Yates, and one brother Lee Phillips. Arvella was a long time member of Praise Assembly of God (Formerly Eastgate Assembly) before moving to Nixa where she attended Nixa Assembly of God. Visitation will be held on Sunday October 30, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for family and 5p.m. to 7 p.m. for friends and family at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral services will be on Monday October 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home South with burial following at Brookline Cemetery.
