Walter L. Hultgren, large farm operator, county commissioner 21 years. He served for long periods of time on the board of managers of the Kandiyohi County Fair Association. President, board member A.S.C.S., school board chairman, and recipient of citation from Hamline University on its 100th anniversary. For 20 years a member of the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners and its chairman for several terms. On the Insurance board. One of several Directors of the Willmar Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in the 1940s. He was on the board of directors of the Kandiyohi County Electrical Power Association.

Served on the church board and was a lay delegate to the church conventions. He was re-elected to a 4 year term on Commission of World Service and Finance of the Conference of Methodist Churches of Minnesota. Willmar Tribune(?), 20 Jun 1952 p.3

Walter Hultgren, Former Commissioner, Died Friday

Funeral services for the late Walter L. Hultgren, 76, of rural Raymond were conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Raymond, with Rev. Lloyd Daniels officiating.
Walter L. Hultgren of St. Johns township and prominent in so many areas and activities passed away Friday morning at 1:15 o'clock at the home his daughter, Mrs. Harold Hauser. His passing came after a lingering illness and, although not in the best of health for some time, he kept active in many positions and interests.
He was prominent in many important enterprises and held many important positions. These were in addition to his occupation as one of the leading farmers of Kandiyohi county.
Two of his greatest interests were the Board of County Commissioners and the Kandiyohi County Fair Association. As to the Commissioners he served on that board with distinction for the long period of 21 years (1944-1965), ten of which were as chairman of the board. As to the County Fair he had equally long tenure of 20 years in that Association, both as president of the Fair and chairman of its Board of Managers.
Mr. Hultgren is survived by eight children. His wife passed away in 1962. The surviving children are Lawrence of Kerkhoven, Pearl (Mrs. Harold Hauser) of Raymond, Russell of Minneapolis, Lowell of Raymond, Irene (Mrs. Curtis Ditmarson) of Nevada, Iowa, Joyce (Mrs. James Peters) of Raymond, Donald of Raymond, and James of Newark, Delaware. In addition there are 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who survive.
