Delbert D. Hunter, 27, of LaHarpe died Friday, April 15 at Freeman Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., from injuries he received in a one-car accident April 9, three miles south of LaHarpe.
He was born July 1, 1977, in Shattuck, Okla. He grew up in Mulvane and was graduated from Eureka High School, where he played basketball and football. He attended Emporia State University for a year.
He worked at Dillon's Supermarket in Mulvane while in high school and IBP Beef in Emporia while attending college. He moved to Iola and worked for Russell Stover Candies for four years and had been employed at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Ottawa at the time of his death.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Pheasants Forever.
He is survived by his wife, Tisha M. Poffenbarger-Hunter, of the home; two daughters, Kaylee and Jordan Hunter, both of the home; a son, Eathan, of the home; his parents, Dalen and Nancy (Barnhart) Thomas, Toronto; in-laws Rhonda Poffenbarger, Iola, and Roy Poffenbarger, Girard; and a brother, Paul Craft, Yates Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum and Fiskel Memorial Chapels in Iola, the Rev. Lloyd Houk officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum and Fiskel. The Delbert Hunter Memorial Fund has been established. Donations may be left at the funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements.
