DIED.
JEFFRIES: on Saturday May 4, about 4 a. m. Mrs. Lucinda Jeffries, wife of Thomas D. Jeffries, of apoplexy, at her home in LaGrange. Mrs. Jeffries is well-known in this vicinity, where she resided for several years, during her husbands incumbency as circuit clerk after the war and later when he was engaged in merchandising here. She was about 60 years old and died suddenly. The apoplectic stroke was fatal in a few minutes, she having never recovered her power of speech after awakening her husband at her first feelings of the approaching illness. Mrs. Jeffries remains were buried Monday, Rev. W. O. Shank officiating at the funeral ceremonies which were conducted at her late home. Mrs. Jeffries was the only daughter of John and Charlotte Biggs, who came to Lewis county in 1840, both dying in the year 1854. Mrs. Jeffries had five brothers, Joseph L., Coleman, James D., William H. and John H. Diggs. She was the mother of one son, John B. of Marion county, and two daughters, Miss Belle, milliner at La Grange, and Mary the wife of Hugh Harnsberger of Withers Mill, Ralls Co. She was a member of the Baptist church, a faithful wife, a beloved mother and a highly respected woman. Her death is the first break in the family circle.
