Funeral services for C.W. Allen, 87 year old pioneer settler and former Texas Ranger, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. George C. Hutto officiating.
Mr. Allen died Wednesday, December 14, 1937 at the home of his son, A.A. Allen, 412 North Madison, following a 10 day illness. He was born February 24, 1851 in Tensol Parish, Louisiana and was married October 10, 1875 to Miss Ellen Smith in Hill County, Texas. After Mr. Allen served as a Texas Ranger, he and his family moved to this County in 1899 where he filed on a claim. He retired from farming several years ago and has made his home in Elk City. Mr. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church. His wife died in January of 1928.
Surviving are three sons and six daughters. They are W.L. Allen of Carter, Oklahoma; A.A. Allen of Elk City; R.W. Allen of Crawford, Oklahoma; Mrs. C.H. Griggs, of Lubbock, Texas; Mrs. H.A. Gray of Carter, Oklahoma; Mrs. W.E. Beath, of Oklahoma City; Mrs. J.A. Bohannan of Plainview, Texas; Mrs. J.L. Hewitt of Canute; Mrs. P.E. Dye of Oklahoma City and 38 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Burial was in the Ural Cemetery.
